How are bubble shapes classified?
Bubble shapes in the ice are classified based on two main
bubble shapes discerned by the research team: egg-shaped and needle-shaped.
To classify them, the team members would measure the height
and width of the bubbles. Based on these measurements, they classified regions
within the ice as containing:
•Egg-shaped only bubbles
•Both egg and needle-shaped bubbles
•Needle-shaped only bubbles
•No bubbles
These distinct classifications, determined by the presence
and type of bubbles, are then used to represent information, similar to how
dots and dashes or 1s and 0s are used in Morse code or binary code,
respectively.
