On July 3–4, 2025, a key conference of Census Directors was held to prepare for Population Census 2027, which is to be completed by March 2027. Officials clarified that no decision has yet been made on updating the National Population Register (NPR) during the upcoming census.

• NPR is a register of usual residents of India, first prepared in 2010 alongside the 2011 Census.

• Last updated in 2015–16.
